Electrical installation

What actually is “electrical installation”?
When we talk about domestic electrical installation, we mean all the fixed electrical equipment that is supplied through your electricity meter. This means the consumer unit, cables (mostly hidden in ceilings or walls), sockets, light fittings and switches. It also means what’s inside the consumer unit: fuses and circuit-breakers.
How do we make a domestic electrical installation safe?
First, we need to make sure there are enough circuits installed – for safety and also so that the installation can cope if there is a fault in one part of it. Electric shock risk must be mitigated using appropriate bonding and earthing, and residual current devices (RCDs). We need to make sure we choose and use the right type of cables, and that we install enough sockets so that the customer doesn’t end up relying on extension cables and multi-socket adaptors. Finally, we make sure that all the parts the customer touches, such as switches and sockets, are correctly installed so that no one ever makes physical contact with live elements.
What does a commercial electrical installation involve?
Commercial installations are slightly different – first of all, we use a three-phase power system rather than a single phase. Also, the scale of commercial installations can vary. In a large project such as a school, factory or hospital, as well as the lighting, cables and power sockets, there will also be air-conditioning and security systems to consider. An office or set of shared business spaces will need to accommodate computers, printers, lighting and possibly kitchens. If the commercial premises use hazardous materials, we need to be totally sure that our installation is a safe distance from any potential issues. We will also need to consider emergency lighting and fire protection, and sometimes extra circuits.
Always professional
Whether working in domestic or commercial premises, we make it our business to be professional. We don’t rush through unexpected problems – we consider each situation as it arises, and the most efficient solutions for your home or workplace. We are always polite, punctual and efficient, wherever a call for installations takes us.
